The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture created a new portal – http://air.gov.ge/, where any interested person will have an access to the comprehensive information on the ambient air quality and monitoring, which is provided in the unified space. The new portal ensures support for e-governance, planning / taking measures to improve the air quality, promotes participation of citizens in the decision-making and policy planning processes.
"It is important to provide timely information on the quality of air, including planned initiatives, ways and solutions concerning air protection. Raising public awareness is a crucial factor in resolving this problem, all of us can contribute to reduce air pollution and improve air quality for better environment and health, that will subsequently lead to the overall goal. Negotiations are being underway with the European Environmental Agency (EEA), issues regarding Georgia’s atmospheric air data to be exposed on the European air quality portal in a continuous flow mode, as well as to exchange data and integrate with the EEA and the European Air Quality Portal (http://airindex.eea.europa.eu/) by means of the new portal are being discussed.
The EEA experts visited Georgia a few days ago and featured an assessment, according to which the portal has a high-level design, which enables to easily share experience. Therefore, for the first time, we will be able to exchange data with the EU non-EU country and integrate into a unified European information system''- Levan Davitashvili said.
