Interim report on Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan

Under the “European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership” (EUWI+) project, with the participation of stakeholders a consultative meeting was convened at the Kvareli Edemi Hotel, in Kvareli. At the meeting, the EU's representative in Georgia, Zurab Jincharadze made a report on the Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan and introduced participants with the interim results. The meeting included a discussion, in which the stakeholders made a main focus on the challnges identified while working on Alazani-Iori Basin Management Plan document.
The surface and groundwater quality, as well as consumption of unsustainable water resources in Alazani-Iori river basin was also brought forward by experts. 
The project envisages legal and regulatory systems of the Eastern Partnership countries to improve in accordance with the European legislation and international obligations. As established by the European water framework directive, information and involvement of the public has to be ensured in key phases of development of the river basin management plan.
The State Attorney - Governor in the Kakheti Region. Irakli Kadagishvili, Leading International Expert in the preparation of the AAA Management Plan, Yannick Pochon, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Environmental Agency, Environmental Information and Education Center and local stakeholders attended the meeting.
