National Registration of Forest in Georgia is underway

The first national registration of forest is started in Georgia. According to the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili forest registry is a powerful source of information and a tool to implement forest policy and strategic planning.

"Today, for the first time in Georgia, the national registration of forest is carried out, based on which we will have an opportunity to receive statistical information about forest resources, conduct continuous monitoring of forest condition and do international reporting  on the forest related data "- said Solomoni Pavliashvili.

It is noteworthy, that the National Forestry Registry includes all forests in the country, regardless of the governing body and the status of protection. The national registration of forest will enable us to obtain the information on economic characteristics of forest, identifying and assessing the status of forest development and degradation, as well as biodiversity and climate change impacts.


The first national forest registration in Georgia is carried out with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany under the frame of the German International Cooperation (GIZ) Program "Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus’’.

The Head of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Embassy of Germany in Georgia, Daniel Haas declared that, Georgia is ready to implement fundamental reform and introduce sustainable management principles in the forest sector.

 "Today we are implementing the first national forest inventory in Georgia, our goal is to create a large-scale and transparent data that will facilitate the formation of an effective forest management system in the country. I am happy to launch this project and looking forward for the first results "said Daniel Haas.

 Within the scope of the event, Solomon Pavliashvili along with the forest registration, planning and monitoring working group members participated in the forest field works in Kojori forest.
