At the 3rd Conference of Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association (GHGA), the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili declared : "I think, that ‘’ hazelnut protection program’’ is comprised of all components that is necessary to obtain a high quality crop’’.

"This is a cooperation between the state and the private sector. We should engage thousands of farmers in this program. Subsequently, a hazelnut which was an important export product and an important source of income for this region will regain its position.
The hazelnut is considered, as one of the most demanded export products worldwide, due to the favorable climatic conditions of the country, hazelnut has a good production potential. Today, hazelnut is planted on more than 40,000 ha of agricultural land area. Therefore, in case of attaining higher productivity, like other hazelnut producing countries, it will become a source of income across the country as well as in the region.
Therefore, we would like to increase productivity and use plantations even more efficiently. We believe, that we should encourage production of hazelnut and nut products.
We actively support cultivation and planting of perennial nut crops throughout the country. Finally, Georgia can become an important player in terms of providing global markets with nut crops "- the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said.
