Levan Davitashvili participated in the session of the IFAD Governing Council in Rome

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture,  Levan Davitashvili took part in the 42nd Session of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in the capital of Italy, Rome. 
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Gilbert Houngbo and the Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis opened the session, which was attended by the representatives of 190 countries.
The eradication of poverty, fight against the hunger and promotion of food sovereignty was the main topic to discuss at the session this year. At the opening ceremony Pope Francis made a focus on the provision of equal opportunities for population to have an access to safe and nutritious food.
The Prime Minister of Italy noted, that goals set by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) should be equal to everyone and engage more and more young people and women in rural development to improve economic growth and human well-being.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili declared, that all countries undertake commitments to implement goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the UN, hereto, Georgian government promotes all initiatives to support young farmers and vulnerable groups to have an access to financial resources and to develop rural environment in a sustainable way.
