Geogap" - New Certification System
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Georgian Farmers Association to support the recognition and development of "Good Agricultural Practices of Georgia" (Geogap) certification system
The Memorandum was signed by the Minister, Levan Davitashvili and the Chairman of the Association, Nino Zambakhidze.
"We have been cooperating with farming organizations for a long period of time. Including farmers association. I would like to note, that it is important to involve CSOs in the development of agriculture. "Geogap" is a Georgian analogy of good agricultural international practices which will promote Georgian quality products in the country " said Levan Davitashvili.
The protection of products produced by honest farmers along with the importance of promoting Georgian quality products in cooperation with the Ministry was stressed by Nino Zambakhidze.
The Mission Director of USAID/Georgia, Peter A. Wiebler stated, that USAID is proud to support this initiative in which Georgian farmers will have an opportunity to produce competitive products and export their products to the international markets.
This initiative is implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and technical support of the USAID program ‘’Zrda Activity in Georgia’’.
The representatives of relevant government agencies, donor and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.Â
