“Sustainable Land and Forest Management in the Greater Caucasus landscape” GEF Project preparation stage to sum up at the meeting

The Global Environment Facility Fund 6th Cycle (GEF-6) Project “Sustainable Land and Forest Management in the Greater Caucasus landscape” preparation stage was summed up at the  Environmental Information and Education Center. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze opened the meeting.The importance of sharing experience in the Georgia’s forestry sector among Armenian and Azerbaijan colleagues was stressed by the Deputy Minister at the meeting. Moreover main stakeholders and beneficiaries discussed important aspects of the project and drew their attention to the expected outcomes and planned activities.
 The project is financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through UN Environment Programme and implemented by REC Caucasus and the World Resources Institute. The project covers all three countries of the Caucasus region and the budget amounts to 1 million USD.
Within the frame of the project, evaluation of forest restoration opportunities will be implemented in Georgia and maps will be developed using internationally accepted best practices. The project will also support implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country to achieve agenda 20/30.
