Levan Davitashvili awarded winner schools participating in the paper separation and collection contest

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili awarded winner schools participating in the contest for separating and collecting paper, Minister awarded pupils with relevant certificates and thematic prizes.

The Minister has been focused on the importance of waste management in the country, thereby, he drew his attention to the waste management code and long-term waste management strategy developed by the Ministry. According to Levan Davitashvili, rising public awareness is one of the most important issues in waste management and thanked United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for their support.

The competition was organized by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) with the financial support of USAID. The event was held under the  program ‘’Waste Management Technologies in Regions’’ (WMTR II) Phase II .

The program is implemented in three regions of Georgia - Kakheti, Adjara, Shida Kartli and facilitates modernization of waste management sector and inclusive economic growth in the country.

It should be noted, that in total, 135 schools participated in the competition and collected 53 tons of paper. Among them, 7 winner schools were identified according to the number of collected paper waste.

The products of "green companies" were also presented at the event, some of them were made from recycled paper produced in Georgia.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Irina Abuladze and Director of USAID Economic Development Office Veronica Lee attended the event.
