Levan Davitashvili opened the Final of Niko Ketskhoveli Environmental School Competition

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Natia Zedginidze  and Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Kakha Kuchava opened the final event of Niko Ketskhoveli environmental school competition. The objectives for sustainable development being the main topic of the school award for 2018-19 embracing 500 schools around Georgia.

" We are happy to meet so many highly motivated and educated young people, who worked hard to make important changes in their communities, promoting public awareness and sustainable development goals. If the community around you has more information about sustainable development goals it will take a good care on the environment and will take into consideration social issues as well and this is the merit of these young people. I am convinced, that no reward and status can be compared with the understanding how many good things you can do for your own community and your country, as far as, taking care of the country starts from your own village and community "said Levan Davitashvili.

At the event, the teacher selected by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture was awarded. Levan Davitashvili has handed over "Green Award 2019" to Tea Talakhadze - the teacher of the village Bazaleti, Kharagauli municipality.

The jury comprising of the representatives of international and scientific organizations has selected three winners from 32 school teams of Georgia: 
I place - School in village Rokiti (Imereti); 
II place - St. Alexi Shushania Orthodox school - Gymnasium (Samegrelo); 
III place - "Georgian school" (Tbilisi).

Under the initiative of the National Forestry Agency, an excursion tour will be held in Borjomi Gorge for prize-winning schools to raise awareness among pupils . Natia Iordanashvili, the Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency, handed over a five- volumes book "Earth" to the first place winner school in village Rokiti. The Forestry Agency selected  N2 Public School in Telavi and awarded it with an animal encyclopedia.
Each of the three winner school team will participate in the 10-day "Green Camp", which is comprised with a five day cognitive program "Young Ranger"  in the Georgia’s Protected Areas. Nana Labadze, leader of the village Rokiti School will be awarded to spend a day and work along with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture for a couple of hours

The large scale school competition is being implemented by CENN since 2015, with the financial contribution from the Austrian Development Cooperation. Key partners: Parliament of Georgia, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Ministry of Education Science, Culture and Sport.
