Consulting meeting was held in Bolnisi to discuss Khrami-Debeda Basin Management Plan

The International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March, as a means of focusing on the importance of sustainable management of freshwater resources. Furthermore, in relation to the World Water Day, under the European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership (EUWI+ 4 EaP), the consulting meeting was held in Bolnisi to discuss Khrami-Debeda Basin Management Plan.

At the meeting, the participants discussed challenges identified in the process of developing the Khrami-Debide basin management plan. Experts brought forward issues related to the surface and ground water quality as well as unsustainable use of water resources.

Under the frame of the meeting, the EU expert delivered a practical interactive seminar and provided Bolnisi school students with the information in respect of the effects of water pollution on river and ecosystems.

The World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, the importance of water in our daily life, to tell others and take action to make a difference, save water and drink fresh water for a healthy life style. The European Union Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership (EUWI+ 4 EaP) joins Georgia to celebrate annual World Water Day event, under which a number of activities closely linked with the EU Water Framework Directive and Sustainable Development Principles are planned to be implemented.

The Deputy Head of the Environment and Climate Change Department Maia Javakhishvili, representatives of the Water Resources Management Office, National Environmental Agency, Environmental Information and Education Center and local self-government attended the meeting.
