George Khanishvili attended the workshop "Trade Policy and Georgia’s Reform for Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulation "

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili attended the workshop "Trade Policy and Georgia’s Reform for Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulatory System".The goal of the meeting was to discuss the present condition on trade of agricultural products under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement.

Giorgi Khanishvili declared, that food security is a priority for the country and thanked the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food Safety Agency of Bulgaria for their support and assistance.

At the meeting the First Deputy was focused on issues related to the fulfillment of obligations taken under the EU Agreement and underlined the importance of mobilizing the financial resources  in this respect.

The Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy in Georgia Mr. Jeffry Reneau noted, that the situation in sanitary and phytosanitary condition has rather been improved in the country and promised to support the sector reform process.

"The aim of today's meeting is to discuss possibilities of export products produced in Georgia to European and other international markets (including US market) and increase Georgian farmers' awareness in this regard. We support farmers and are ready to help them in achieving their goals, "said Jeffry Reneau.

The representatives of the relevant departments of the Ministry, private and non-governmental sector attended the meeting.
