International Conference “Rural Development Policy 2020+ Translating European Practice into Georgian Reality” was followed by a discussion

The  list of participants of the conference included the Minister of the Environmental Protection and Agriculture - Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Maia Tskitishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development - George Kobulia, Markus Hopfner, Deputy Director General of the Federal

Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism of the Republic of Austria; and Dr. Lászlo Sandor Vajda, Former Chief Negotiator for EU accession on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary and Executive Director of the Economic Policy Research Center - Nino Evgenidze.

The development of the national strategy 2020-2027 was main topic of discussion.

"It is noteworthy, that Ministry works on a new rural development strategy . We have gained significant experience and would like to offer adequate rural development strategy to the Government. We are well aware, that strategy is a complex document where along with the development of infrastructure, main focus will be made on the strengthening of economic opportunities for people living in rural areas, supporting entrepreneurial activity, as well as developing of agricultural farms "- said Levan Davitashvili

According to Levan Davitashvili, new rural development strategy includes environmental protection and youth engagement in the rural development process.
According to the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili, development of regions is equal to the country's rate of growth, accordingly, new strategy as well as its implementation will be a significant step forward in the country's development process .

Giorgi Kobulia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted, that creating better living conditions in rural areas, increasing income of population, through producing agricultural products that will be market-oriented is of utmost importance.

Within the frame of the discussion, attention was paid to the importance of Austrian and Hungarian communities to share their experience and best practices with Georgian side.
