Italian Government allocates 2 million euros to Georgia
Italian Government allocated 2 million euros to help Georgia purchase new stations to conduct thorough study of risks and natural threats, as well as observe and monitor ambient air quality in Tbilisi areas.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili along with the representatives of the Ministry met with the Italian Experts, who held an official visit to Georgia. The aim of the visit is to provide financial assistance to Georgian side under the frame of the memorandum signed between the Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea Protection of Italy and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia.
Under the frame of the cooperation between the two parties, Italian side will share its experience with Georgian partners, furthermore, new air quality monitoring stations will be purchased, atmospheric modelling for air quality forecasting purposes will be introduced and hydrological and geological studies will be conducted in the river Mtkvari and its tributaries nearby Tbilisi.
It should be noted, that expansion of air quality monitoring network still remains as the top priorities of the Ministry. Within the frame of the monitoring, five modern monitoring stations are planned to purchase and install, which will facilitate the National Environmental Agency to expand its monitoring network and air quality modeling system to further evaluate quality of air in various areas. Moreover, information will be processed upon the received field surveys and hydro meteorological and geological threats in the field area will be evaluated.
Italian experts will hold a visit to Georgia until April 12. Under the frame of the visit, foreign experts together with the specialists of the National Environmental Agency taking into consideration hydro meteorological and geological threats in the country will hold joint field visits to see automatic air quality monitoring stations, get familiar with the work process and evaluate gorges of Vere and Leghvtakhevi.
The representatives of the National Environmental Agency, Tbilisi City Hall and Tbilisi State University attended the meeting.Â
