Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy ( 2021-2027 ) to discuss publicly at the meeting

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili delivered an opening speech at the meeting, where issues related to the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy ( 2021-2027 ) have been openly discussed, promoting effective public participation in discussion.

Giorgi Khanishvili noted, that  meeting was held with a specific purpose, aiming to bring stakeholders together  to review  the working version of a new strategy document, which was adopted as a result of combining two strategies to form a comprehensive document. The new document should be in compliance with the principle of publicity was noted by the First Deputy Minister, who also declared, that new draft document is based on sustainable development principles and envisages development of new economic opportunities for local population living in rural areas, also to improve social conditions and provide food security.

The main strategic directions of the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy 2021-2027 aim to increase competitiveness among agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, improve social conditions and food, veterinary medicine and plant protection systems, including rational use of natural resources and adaptation to climate change.

The Head of Policy-Analysis Department, Ekaterine Zviadadze delivered a presentation, where she brought forward main directions of the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy 2021-2027.

The meeting was followed by an interesting discussion with the participation of representatives of government, non-governmental, civil sector, donor organizations and local development groups (LAG) .
