Establishing Disease Free Zone in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti and Mestia Municipality

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze attended the meeting, where the National Strategy for Establishing Disease Free Zone in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region and Mestia Municipality 2019-2022  was discussed.

The Deputy Minister noted, that in terms of animal health protection and veterinary well-being, announcing Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti and Mestia municipality as animal disease free zones is of utmost importance.

Yuri Nozadze declared: ‘’ This is an ambitious project that will provide an additional incentive in other regions, which in turn will facilitate to conduct veterinary control against various infectious diseases , maintain ecological balance and protect the environment ’.

It is worth mentioning, that private sector will be also engaged along with the state agencies in the implementation of the project, including Georgian-Spanish company ‘’Native Georgian’’ which aims to protect and preserve Georgian pig breed variety.

Under the frame of the meeting, the issues related to the development of breeding farms along with the possibilities, future prospects of livestock development and investment opportunities were discussed at the meeting.

Participants were also focused on the agricultural development activities and underlined the importance of the company ‘’Blaunstein Georgia’’ which operates in Racha region and noted that similar companies will promote the employment of local population, improve economic conditions and business environment in the region.

The possibilities for tourism potential development of mountainous regions of Georgia were also discussed by participants who noted, that development of the region will attract more tourists and improve tourism infrastructure.
