Levan Davitashvili: "It should be noted, that complex research determining blood lead level was conducted for the first time with the participation of High Performing Organizations coming up with a perfect methodology ‘

The results to reveal blood lead levels in Georgian children were presented at the event. Under the frame of the global Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS), which is one of the large-scale household surveys around the world, fom September to December of 2018, the lead component survey was conducted for the first time in Georgia.

"A complex plan for next several years will be developed under the government decree.

We study different factors to find the source of contamination. It can be any types of consumer-industrial products or caused by other factors. The specialists of the National Environmental Agency are engaged in the research along with the representatives of Disease Control Center.

I would like to note, that Georgia is included in the list of those countries that prioritises green economy and ecology. We openly talk and discuss issues in relation to lead to be found in the environment and specific steps to take in this direction to tackle this problem.

It is important, that National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture implements the monitoring on lead level. Studies are conducted in the atmospheric air, soil and fuel quality. Control of food and drinking water is also actively implemented.

We conducted a survey of food and tested a huge number of samples in accordance with the rules and regulations of the EU over the last two years especially in 2016. Some misconceptions were revealed in single cases which totally are less than 2% .
Once again I would like to point out, that results should taken into consideration,  although they are not alarming. The Ministry of Environmental and Agriculture will actively continue to conduct complex researches for determining the lead concentration in the blood " - said Levan Davitashvili.
