Paata Shanshiashvili will be the Head of the Advisory Council of the LEPL Agency of Protected Areas

The first meeting of the Advisory Council of the LEPL Agency of Protected Areas was held at the Ministry of  Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The Council was created under the initiative of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, the main purpose of which is to develop recommendations based on international experience.

The Ministry determines the policy on matters of the Protected Areas Agency, although the governance is characterized with the complexity of activities. Therefore, involvement of different agencies is of utmost importance. 

The main activity of the Council is to conduct analytical work on specific issues and prepare recommendations based on international practice. The recommendations developed by experts will be considered in the decision-making process " - said Levan Davitashvili.

Paata Shanshiashvili will be the Head of the Advisory Council of the LEPL Agency of Protected Areas. At present Paata Shanshiashvili is the head of the World Commission on Protected Areas | ( IUCN-WCPA) in Georgia and an advisor to the international programs of the US-related territorial entities. 
He was directly engaged in the development of the system of international categories of protected areas.
 

The Advisory Board consists of representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, National Tourism Agency, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, National Agency for Mineral Resources, Tbilisi Zoological Park, the international organization "World Wildlife Fund" (WWF), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
