Levan Davitashvili got familiar with the activities of the first biodiesel company in Georgia
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili got acquainted with the activities of the Biodiesel Company "Biodiesel Georgia". The company started producing biofuel a couple of months ago.
Â
At the meeting, the Minister drew his attention to the consumption of biodiesel to reduce emissions of the hazardous air pollutants and noted, that encouraging the use of bio-fuel will further improve the quality of the urban ecological environment .Â
Â
"The first biodiesel production enterprise was established in Georgia, which has a very interesting technology and zero waste. The enterprise has important plans, embracing agricultural field as well. Specifically, the company is going to grow a new agricultural crop rapeseed (Brassica napus) in Georgia, which is an interesting direction and at the same time it is in line with the trends in Europe "said Levan Davitashvili.
Â
The company's expert Kakha Karchkhadze says, that using bio-fuel would not cause an overall increase in levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide and might successfully replace the use of petroleum diesel.Â
Â
We have taken the first step not only in Georgia but in the whole region a well. A renewable, alternative, clean energy production plant was created. Biodiesel can be freely used in all segments where oil and diesel are used. Our raw material is a renewable resource, we make an eco-friendly fuel, which is collected as a result of the secondary consumption of petroleum products.
Â
We would like to cultivate a wonderful plant-biological resource- the rapeseed (Brassica napus), thus we give a new incentive and good example to Georgian farmers to cultivate a new agricultural crop and develop a new direction in the agricultural field" said the expert in the fields of the renewable energy at Ilia State University, Kakha Karchkhadze.
Â
Investment in the "Biodiesel Georgia" amounted to 1 million GEL. 30 people were employed at the company, 190 000 gel was received from up to 200 000 l consumed edible oils which has been recycled since the launch of the production. It is noteworthy, that production of bio-fuel has saved more than 500 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Â
In accordance with the global best practices, "Biodiesel Georgia" started cultivation of rapeseed (Brassica napus) in two regions of Georgia. In partnership with "Lomatogra" and "Adjara Group" rapeseed was sown on 50 ha of area in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions.
Â
After successful testing of the project, the rapeseed sown area will be further expanded in other regions as well. Moreover, oil and biodiesel will be produced from received products and waste will be used in combined food.
Â
In 2020-2023 the company "Biodiesel Georgia" plans to build a larger biodiesel plant with the investment capacity amounting to 10 million Euros and the number of employees to reach 200 people.
