Levan Davitashvili: " Use of Quality Mark will ensure a higher level of protection to Georgian products"
Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili delivered presentations on the new regulation of quality marks. The event was held under the frame of the tea and honey festival in Mtatsminda Park.
New Regulations, Rules for Assigning the Right of Quality Mark Use have been developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, representing another step from the State to promote the quality of Georgian products.
" The presentation was symbolically held within the scope of the tea festival. Georgian tea is distinguished by its taste and quality and I am sure, that in the nearest future we will be able to offer a world market a high-quality and clean Georgian tea products .
Georgian honey is the first animal product for which the EU market is open and hopefully soon it will occupy its own niche in the market. New regulations of the quality mark ensure more reliability and protection and add more value to Georgian products. It will also increase the demand for Georgian products, promote agro-tourism and increase trust and export" said Levan Davitashvili.
" The Right of Quality Mark Use envisages development of a food quality system, product branding, implementation of international marketing practices and protection of legal / institutional mechanisms to improve the quality and origin of food.
Under the new regulations, 11 quality classifiers are defined: the Protected Geographic Indication (PGI), Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Traditional Product, Georgian Quality, Grass Fed, Hand Made, Stemming from the Highlands, Forest Nurtured, Juice of Immediate Squeeze, Bio Product and Transitioning to Bio Production.
Applications for the Quality Mark are voluntary and assigned in line with the rules adopted under the legislation of Georgia.
After granting the right to use the quality mark, the enterprise as well as production are subject to permanent control in accordance with the monitoring plan. In case of any violation appropriate measures will be taken”.
