Changes were implemented in the program "Plant the Future"

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, additional mechanisms should be created to stimulate the cultivation of modern intensive gardens and expand garden planted areas.


The resolution was adopted at the government session, according to which  the garden planting area should cover 0.5 hectare instead of 1 hectare. Under the garden component the maximum co-financing per beneficiary amounts to 250,000 GEL instead of 100,000 gel.    


Under the garden component,  co-financing assistance will be provided for potential beneficiaries if they wish to purchase perennial crop seedlings, install drip irrigation system, to buy middle or supporting poles / or install anti-hail nets.


Financial assistance under the garden component considers no more than 70% financing of the true value of purchased seedlings, and no more than 80% financing in case of the agricultural cooperatives, or villages nearby border line areas and high mountainous communities.


Under  the frame of the garden component, the arrangement of drip irrigation system on the agricultural land plot will be financed with no more than 50% of its true value and no more than 1 250 gel on 0.5 ha for natural persons and legal entities, although, no more than 60% will be financed and not more than 1 500 GEL on 0.5 ha in case of agricultural cooperatives, mountainous villages or people living nearby border line.


Under  the frame of the garden component, the installation of anti-hail nets will be financed with no more than 50% of its true value for natural persons and legal entities, and no more than 60% will be financed for agricultural cooperatives, mountainous villages or people living nearby border line areas .


According to the amendments, the agricultural cooperatives participating in the program will receive a financial assistance no more than 5 000 GEL for the cost of chemical  treatment equipment after they plant perennial gardens, and submit an invoice and / or relevant document. 


In case of the nursery component, instead of 50% co-financing , 70% of the project cost will be financed, not more than 500 000 GEL.


Amendments were also introduced in the sub-component of berry crops, which considers  financial assistance for cultivation of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry intensive gardens in the specific geographical area. According to the amendments, under the frame of the sub-component of co-financing berry crops, the cultivation of berry crops can be financed in all municipalities and self-governing cities of Georgia –except   Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Poti.

 

The implementation of the project "plant the Future" was launched in March 2015 by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.


The aim of the project is to plant perennial crops and use agricultural lands efficiently across the country, as a result,  imported products will be replaced with Georgian products, the export will be increased, the raw materials supply and processing as well as  social-economic condition of rural population will be further improved.
