Training is underway to discuss effective implementation of strategic environmental assessment

Training was conducted at the hotel "Holiday Inn" to discuss spatial planning of one of the sectors of the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) –and its impact on the environment.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili made an opening speech at the training session. The importance of training and the need for raising public awareness for effective implementation of the strategic environmental assessment was underlined by Giorgi Khanishvili at the session .
Moreover, spatial planning likely to have an effects on the environment was discussed on the example of Resort Lebarde, located in Martvili municipality .

It should be noted, that strategic environmental assessment system is a new instrument in Georgian legislation. Consequently, training is important for all parties involved in the strategic environmental assessment process.

The training was held with the support of the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECE), the Government of the Czech Republic and the European Union.

The two-day training will be hosted by international and national consultants of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
The representatives of local and regional municipalities, relevant Ministries, along with the officials of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and National Environmental Agency participated in the training.
