Project to provide support measures towards implementation of the integrated waste management system in Georgia

The meeting was held at the hotel ‘’Holiday Inn’’, where participants discussed a project of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The project envisages capacity-building and support measures towards implementation of integrated waste management system in Georgia. The importance of project was underlined by participants.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili made a welcoming speech and expressed his gratitude to the Swedish Embassy in Georgia, Swedish Development Agency and Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for their support in the environmental field.

"Implementation of environmental commitments taken under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement is of utmost importance for us. We appreciate your support in the waste management projects. The exchange of Swedish experience under the frame of the study tours will significantly help the Ministry to develop the Extended Producer Responsibility legal acts, National Hazardous Waste Management System and Biodegradable Waste Management Strategy" said Solomon Pavliashvili.

The current project implemented in cooperation with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency in the field of waste management focuses on the efficient management of hazardous and biodegradable waste and strengthens the potential between public and private sectors.

The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Swedish International Development Cooperation, Ltd Tbilservice Group and Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia attended the meeting.
