A new technical cooperation program to support the fulfillment of commitments taken under the DCFTA
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili and United Nations (FAO) regional program director, Raimund Jehle signed the technical co-operation new program " Technical Assistance for National Food Agency in the implementation of EU Association Agreement Priorities’’.
The program will be implemented in 2019-2020 aiming to provide technical assistance to the National Food Agency of Georgia in the implementation of EU Association Agreement Priorities. The budget of the technical cooperation program amounts to $ 175,000. The program considers to improve the legal basis in the field of agriculture, also to strengthen capacities of the National Good agency, other relevant State Agencies and their contractors in implementation of the obligations taken under the agreements with World Trade Organization (WTO), United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and DCFTA.
Georgia should improve and enhance food safety, veterinary and plant protection systems in the approximation process with the EU.
Under the frame of the technical support, the experts will hold field visits. The capacities of the National Food Agency will be evaluated along with the relevant needs being identified. Within the frame of the program, strategic documents along with the guidelines will be developed to further enhance and modernize the Animal Health, Plant Protection and National Food Safety Agency capabilities.
The Strengthening Capacity of the National Food Agency will further support the fulfillment of commitments taken under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement with the European Union (DCFTA).
