Levan Davitashvili met with the representatives of wine making industry

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with the representatives of wine making industry, whereby he  discussed organizational issues relating to the 2019 grape harvest and outlined planned activities as well.

"Successful cooperation has been established between Georgian Government and private sector over the past few years. Last year, entrepreneurs and grape growers reached an agreement, as a result of which they conducted the grape harvest in a well organized manner, without interference from the government. As in previous year, the state will not regulate the price of grapes and grapes will be harvested and sold to winemakers without being subsidized by the state. The National Wine Agency will manage efficient harvest processes, including crop accounting and performing traceability as well, in other words, the agency will be engaged in the whole harvesting process "  said Levan Davitashvili.

The Minister noted, that in 2019, winemakers and wine companies will be able to deliver  grapes registered as the appellation of origin " Kindzmarauli", "Akhasheni", "Kvareli" and "Mukuzani" on the basis of submitting  the extract of vineyards cadastre program in Kvareli and Gurjaani municipalities.

This will simplify the harvesting process, make the whole process more transparent
and increase the quality of Georgian wine, which is crucial for sustainable development of the agricultural sector. It should be noted, that high quality of wine is the main factor to increase the competitiveness of Georgian wine.

The Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla  noted, that implementation of proper policy, new approaches, as well as active communication with the private sector has significantly developed the wine industry. The cooperation with the representatives of the Wine Industry will further help to improve the quality of Georgian wine, achieve premium positioning segments and establish its place in the international market.

The meeting was held in question-answer mode. The heads of wine companies made remarks and shared their opinions to the Minister. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture gave a detailed account of all issues , which were important  for the representatives of wine sector.
