Levan Davitashvili: " Hazelnut sector has a great potential for growth, thereupon, hazelnut production is gradually increasing in the country"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Georgia Mr. Antonio Bartoli and Executive Director of the company "Ferrero", Marco Goncalves.

 " Georgia’s hazelnut sector has great potential for growth, thereupon, hazelnut production is gradually increasing  in the country. Georgian Government implements a number of important programs to promote the agricultural sector. I would like to express my gratitude to the Executive Director of the company "Ferrero" for contributing to the development of the hazelnut sector, to that end,  I’d like to point out, that company's experience and best practices is essential in the hazelnut production process "said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili.

According to the Minister, Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association plays a crucial role
in the development of the hazelnut sector along with the company Ferrero, which contributed a lot to the progress of Georgia’s hazelnut sector.


"We appreciate your support and I believe, that association has already gained a lot of practical experience and will continue its activities more effectively"- said the Minister.
 
At the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the damage caused by an Asian stink bug in Georgia and drew their attention to the strategy for dealing with invasive species.
 
Marco Goncalves thanked Levan Davitashvili for providing support in the development of production process in Georgia and noted, that company Ferrero, will keep investing in the hazelnut sector.


At the meeting, the director of the company openly stated, that he is ready to actively cooperate with hazelnut farmers, which produce products in accordance with the standards and allow to create an added value  in the course of production.


The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Georgia, Antonio Bartoli underlined the importance of long-term and stable cooperation between the two countries.
