Over the past few years , the Asian Stink Bug caused an enormous damage to one of the most important export product- hazelnut in Georgia. Georgian Government implemented a large scale measures against the invasive pest. We aim to return our position in the market and enter Georgia in the list of top hazelnut exporter countries just like old times, when hazelnut was one of the leading export product in Georgia. Therefore, in parallel with a number of different activities, including to fight against the invasive pests, planting different varieties of hazelnut, expanding intensive garden areas, or sharing knowledge and experience of highly qualified experts, one of the most important tasks for us is to enhance laboratory capacities."- said Giorgi Khanishvili.

Khatia Tsilosani accentuated on the state programs, which facilitate the development of hazelnut sector in Georgia and draw her attention to the importance of the food safety component envisaged under the fourth phase of the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD).

"Georgia has a significant potential for agricultural development. Although, while talking about the quality of hazelnut, we should take into account the multi-component testing conducted in the agricultural laboratory and if testing is compatible with the requirements of International standards. Therefore, we are ready to support you and deliver laboratory equipment and share our knowledge and experience with Georgian partners. We will strengthen the capacity of the Laboratory in Zugdidi, as we are aware, the big part of  hazelnut planted area is in Zugdidi "said Ufuk Ozongun.
