Levan Davitashvili : "Diversification of Georgian wine market is the priority issue for Georgian Government"

"Political forces are trying to mislead people by announcing, that our country has two alternatives, territorial integrity on the one hand, but on the other hand - markets or economic prosperity. It is undeniable, that certain political parties are striving to create economic problems in the country" stated the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili at the meeting with farmers and representatives of business sector in Kakheti region.

Levan Davitashvili declared, that Georgian Government prioritizes market diversification and carries out specific actions in this direction.

"Since 2012, the budget allocated to increase the awareness of Georgian wine has been increased from 1.5 million GEL to 9 million GEL. We see an upward trend. However, not a single GEl was spent on traditional Russian market, where Georgian wine has already raised its historical awareness. We aimed to establish Georgian wine in other alternative markets.
Moreover, scientific projects were implemented in 2013 - 2016, due to which, traditional Georgian method of making qvevri wine has been approved by UNESCO and included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Georgia has been officially recognized as the homeland of wine.
Market diversification is a long-running process, which needs time, hard work and efforts to make consumers properly assess advantages of Georgian wine and our government continues to work in this direction. "Levan Davitashvili said.

" Embargo isn’t laid on Georgian wine yet and I hope, that progress will be maintained" Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili said.
