New Technical Regulations on Poultry Meat will come into effect on February 1, 2020

"Technical Regulations - on the approval of marketing requirements on poultry meat " was adopted by Georgian Government to protect consumers' rights. Business operator ensures compliance with the requirements defined by the technical rules. Under the technical regulations, the National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance will be executive organs, which hold the responsibility for exercising the power.

According to the technical regulations, the marketing for frozen and quick-frozen chicken might be implemented until 2025 in case, if water content does not exceed 5%. Although after 2025, different limits for permissible water content based on the method of cooling will be established under the technical regulation.

The packaged local production of frozen or quick frozen poultry meat are graded by weight under the regulations. In accordance with the regulations, all packed products to have a weighing indicator is very important for consumer protection.

Moreover, in accordance with the regulation, the label of packed products should include an information on poultry farming, growth / husbandry methods. The imported meat should have a certificate of origin issued by a competent authority, or a protocol issued by an accredited laboratory that proves that the product is in compliance with the requirements of the technical rules.

The technical regulation will facilitate the protection of consumers' rights and promote healthy competition in the market.

The resolution will gradually come into force. The basic rules will come into effect from February 1, 2020, and the rest part from 2024.
