Nino Tandilashvili: " Ministry is prioritizing the green manufacturing in the country"


The representatives of the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Economy and Sustainable Development, Finance, banking and financial sector, international organizations (UNDP, UNIDO, USAID, European Union Delegation to Georgia), members of the non-governmental organizations and academia discussed how to improve an access to green financial resources to small and medium businesses in Georgia.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili noted, that green economy is an important part of the Georgian government program. "One of the main priorities of the Ministry is to promote the manufacturing process, that will cause less harm to the environment.

In recent years, we introduced relevant standards envisaged in the obligations under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA). The agricultural sector has all resources to foster green production and facilitate the business sector to produce bio products " said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

As Nino Tandilashvili noted,  representatives of government, private investors, donor organizations, as well as producers and consumers should make joint efforts to mobilize efficient green financing. Accordingly, the damage caused to the environment by small and medium-sized enterprises will be reduced, which will be positively reflected to the economy and ecological condition of the country.

The participants discussed main challenges, initiatives and financial mechanisms with a main focus on the energy efficiency to further increase investments in the small and medium enterprises.

The sides also brought forward the report prepared by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), prepared under the EU-funded project "EU4Environment".Â
