The Regional Workshop of Central Asia and Eastern Europe on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili.

“Georgia, as a member state of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should implement obligations taken under the international conventions. The LEPL Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is actively developing legislative initiatives, establishing the "State's system of accountancy for and control of nuclear material"- said the Deputy Minister.

Solomon Pavliashvili thanked the representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the US Department of Energy for their support.

The officials of the US Department of Energy and International Atomic Energy Agency from ten countries are attending the regional workshop which will last until July 26.
