Award ceremony for paper waste collection competition
The exhibition of posters created by Georgian designers on the reduction of plastic use in our everyday life was held at the National Museum of Georgia within the youth competition "Cannes Lions 2019", which included an awarding ceremony revealing winner schools on the collection of paper waste.Â
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili addressed the winners of the competition with a welcome speech and handed over the certificates to them.
"The Ministry welcomes and supports all projects that address and deal with the environmental and waste management related problems and responds to challenges. We support projects that promote an introduction of waste technologies in the country, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the environment and human health. We support you and welcome initiative and activity of your friends, especially younger generation "said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The program "Waste Management Technology in the Regions, Phase II (WMTR II)", with the financial support of USAID, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) is implemented in Tbilisi and three regions of Georgia (Kakheti, Adjara, Shida Kartli).
In May and June, 2019, the competition for collection of paper waste was held in target regions aiming to promote the waste collection, sorting and recycling practices in schools. Under the competition, 89 schools collected 41 tons of paper waste, which were delivered for recycling to partner companies of program WMTR II. According to the number of collected paper waste, 7 winner schools were revealed, which will take part in a five-day tour in the green camp within the WMTR II program.
The Director of the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN), Nana Janashia, Deputy State Representative of Shida Kartli region, Nugzar Samkharadze and Deputy Director of Georgian National Museum, Mikheil Tsereteli attended the award ceremony.
