Georgia has real potential to produce quality products

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Khanishvili attended the presentation of the research “Georgian Certification and Quality Standards ”. The research aims to explore Georgian food and agricultural quality standards on the example of ‘’Geogap’’ and ‘’Georgian Dairy’’.

“ I would like to note, that participation of the representatives of public and private sectors in today’s event is extremely important. Hence, such an arrangement permits the handling of a group of competent people, who form and develop necessary recommendations. Georgian government has a clear vision for strengthening the role of associations, which are engaged in the production of agricultural food products. We make our best endeavors to include this component in the European Neighborhood Program for Agricultural and Rural Development (ENPARD IV).

Our vision includes development of associations to further ensure  food safety and quality in the country. It is important to understand that increasing demand means increasing the quality of one's own production. I would like to express my gratitude to the EU for its support and financial contribution. We have to take steps forward, which will be a difficult path, full of responsibilities and I think we will achieve the desired result through effective cooperation ”Giorgi Khanishvili said.

The Head of the Program at the EU Delegation to Georgia, Dominic Papenheim  addressed the participants and pointed out, that Georgia has a real potential to produce quality products, accordingly development of the quality marks and standards is vital was noted by Dominic Papenheim.

The need to raise consumer awareness on quality marks and standards is one of the main issues included in the research document. The quality of the product is very important for most of the consumers.
