A parallel project (11M EUR, implemented by the UNDP) will conduct  pilot projects on ecosystems approaches to climate change, namely, protection and rehabilitation of permafrost, boreal forest, peatland and pasture areas: in Georgia, this project that implies rehabilitation of pasture areas in Dedoplistskaro region, already started in 2012 and is being implemented by the UNDP Georgia in partnership with the Agency of Protected Areas.

Project is regional and is to be performed in two regional groups of countries: Russia, Ukraine and Belarus from one side and Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Moldova from another side. The regions will conduct their project activity in regional offices in Kiev (for the first group) and Tbilisi (for the seconf group).

The overall objective of the Clima East  project is to help countries to be well equipped for GHG emission reductions and prepared to deal with climatic change impacts.

The Clima East  technical assistance project (budget EUR 1 million) aims at fostering improved climate change policies, strategies and market mechanisms in the partner countries  by supporting regional cooperation and improving the information access to the EU climate change legislation, policies and experience.
