Supporting the introduction of Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR) principle as required by the Waste Management Code

The overall goal of the sub-project is to support Georgia in the implementation of the Waste Management Code, which was adopted in December 2014 and which imposes a number of new requirements on various public and private organizations. 

More specific objectives include:

(i) raising the general understanding on the concept of Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR); 
(ii) promoting and supporting the introduction of the environmentally sound management of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) or e-waste in Georgia, which is one of the specific waste streams subject to EPR.

Project's expected results are the following
EPR Manual is developed and encouraged to be applied by the state agencies and private companies as an introductory document to the EPR approach
Assessment of the existing situation with respect to e-waste is conducted and policy gaps, challenges and opportunities identified
Comprehensive national e-waste policy as well as most appropriate organizational and regulatory framework, considering the realistic policy and economic instruments, for managing e-waste in Georgia is developed 
EPR principle is intensively communicated and awareness of the EPR amongst relevant public and private organizations increased.
