A large-scale cleaning campaign dedicated to World Environment Day

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili took part in the cleaning campaign dedicated to World Environment Day. The participants of the campaign cleaned the area around the city Mtskheta. The theme for 2018 is "Beat Plastic Pollution"."The purpose of the World Environment Day is to increase public awareness and responsibility towards environment protection. All members of the community should take care and have a clean ecological environment to support sustainable environmental development in the country. Most importantly, we have to implement the slogan "Our country is our responsibility" and we should refuse the plastic "said Solomon Pavliashvili.According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, in recent years the use of plastic bags has significantly increased in Georgia. The plastic production has increased dramatically in many countries around the world including Georgia. "As it is known, most of the environment is damaged by wastes from plastic products, residual plastic substances require more than 100 years for complete disintegration.World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June since 1973. The campaign organized by the Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia is supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and financed by the Swedish Government.

World Environment Day is celebrated in ‘’Biblusi ’’ book shop

World Environment Day is marked on June 5th. The activities undertaken under the frame of the event are dedicated to raise public awareness and responsibility towards nature protection. The theme for 2018 is "Beat Plastic Pollution".The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has organized an action in three ‘’Biblusi ’’ book shops. Within the scope of the event, the representatives of the Ministry provided consumers with the information on the biodegradable bags and handed shirts and multi-use fabric bags to them.Since consumption of plastic bags is a global problem, many countries have developed certain regulations to reduce their consumption. The application on technical regulation for degradable plastic products aiming to introduce the International and European practice in Georgia will start in 2018.Since 1972 December 15th,  the June 5 has been declared as an Environment Day by the UN General Assembly. On the initiative of the United Nations, this day is dedicated to one of the most important environmental issues, the challenges it faces and efforts and solutions to environmental problems.

Levan Davitashvili met with the members of the US Chamber of Commerce

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili met with the members of the United States Chamber of Commerce. At the meeting, the Minister has been focused on agricultural projects. Levan Davitashvili drew his attention to the greatest challenge facing agricultural sector- such as Brown Marmorated Stink Bug invasion in Georgia and underlined the importance of the business sector support to be engaged in the fight against the dangerous pests."It should be noted, that private companies have an opportunity to offer their resource to government. This will be a very good example of public–private partnership, which on its hand includes raising awareness in environmental and agricultural issues " - said Levan Davitashvili.The sides drew their attention to the sustainable development goals and processes undertaken in the agriculture sector. The Members of the American Chamber of Commerce brought forward environmental measures and their application." We are interested in the needs of the Ministry and how can we as a private sector support  and cooperate with the Georgian Government. We see that agriculture is developing in Georgia, but in terms of the development it is necessary both sides to take further steps forward " - said the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America, Michael Cougle.The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Giorgi Khanishvili and members of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States attended the meeting.

International Conference on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

"We admit, that a healthy environment is essential for human health and well-being and is an integral part of human rights. The Government of Georgia makes endeavors  to create a safe environment, thus contributing to human health and decreasing pollution- declared the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili at the conference " 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda’’.The environmental component is an important part of the sustainable development goals, this process includes municipal waste management, improvement of atmospheric air quality in urban areas, biodiversity protection, as well as sustainable development of forests-was noted by the Deputy Minister.The “2030 Sustainable Development Agenda – Tbilisi Implementation Conference’’ will last for 2 days. The participants will discuss challenges of the sustainable development and make an overview of the practices and experiences .The members of the Parliament, representatives of Government, United Nations and Federal Republic of Germany, also non-governmental organizations participate in the conference.
